Faux Watercolor Washi Tape

Supplies:

♥Masking Tape

♥Wax Paper

♥Alcohol Inks in assorted colors

♥Alcohol Inks blending solution

What To Do:

Tear a sheet of waxed paper about a foot long. This will determine the maximum length per strip of tape, so you can use a shorter or longer piece if desired. Rip pieces of masking tape from the roll so that they are just slightly shorter than your waxed paper. Stick each piece of tape onto the paper so that the top and bottom edges are nearly touching on another. Fill your sheet with as many strips of tape as desired, leaving a small border around the outer edge of the sheet to avoid ink run-off. Drip alcohol inks onto the tape randomly. Add drops of the blending solution onto the tape until the inks start to spread and run. From here, you can lightly tilt the sheet so that the inks run along the tape and/or add additional inks until you are happy with the result. Allow to dry thoroughly, then take off the strips of tape and move to a fresh sheet of waxed paper for storage. Super easy, super customizable, and super cheap.

What is Tyvek? 

It's not just for mail!. Tyvek is a material that is made out of polyethylene fibers, it is very thin, strong and it creates a water barrier. When Tyvek is heated, it reacts by making bubbles on surface. 

You can;

Print on it!

Paint it!

Distressed it!

Head it!

Sew it!

Stamp it!

Glue it!
Where to find it? It's free at the post office or you can order it online at: http://www.uline.com/

Rubber-stamped images;

look terrific on the painted Tyvek, and Memories Acid-free Dye Inks, VersaFine Archival Instant Dry Pigment Ink, and Staz-On inks all work especially well. These inks do not bleed and tend to produce very sharp, well-defined images.

Metallic calligraphy markers;

They do not bleed on Tyvek, and especially using them after the paper has been painted. (It will produce a totally different effect if you write on the paper with a metallic pen first, and then paint it). Practice calligraphy on using gold ink, stamped over the words with various images, and then cut up or punched them and used them in a collage.

Tyvek can be sewn just like fabric;

but keep in mind when the needle goes through the paper, it will leave a hole behind.

You can punch shapes;

out of your painted Tyvek, but you will need to reinforce it first. Try to glue a paper substrate to the back first or fold the Tyvek onto itself, wrong sides together, and glue it. Simple punch shapes tend to work best.

For Collage work;

painted Tyvek cut into strips approximately 1/2" and 1"-wide work well, and squares cut from those strips are also useful in design work.

The adhesives found to work best;

are Yes! glue, which works well every time, and Uhu glue sticks. You may have to experiment to see what works best for you and your medium.

It's strong and it's ideal for all kinds of art mediums such as; Collage Arts, Altered Arts, Quilting, Sculpting, Mixed Media, Jewelry Making and many more...

How to Use and Print on Dryer Sheets

I enjoy working with different surfaces when I'm creating a Collage/Mixed Media so, today I would like to share with you, some awesome techniques with a simple piece of Dryer Sheet.

You will need;

1. Choose a photograph. I use my own and play with it in Photoshop, cropping it, using filters, generally achieving a sharp, crisp image that I like. Alternatively, you can draw the image you like and scan it into your computer.

2. Select used dryer sheets for printing. Your printer will like you much more if you choose sheets that have crisp edges. Smooth them flat and then iron them to a freezer-paper sheet cut to size (8½" x 11" for most household printers).

3. Print your photograph. If you're printing more than one sheet, feed the sheets through the printer one at a time. Once your sheet is printed and dry, peel it off the freezer paper. Now you can use it in your art as is or paint it first.

***Note, that printing on conventional dryer sheets doesn't necessarily require pre-treatment with a medium like Golden's Digital Ground (Clear). 

But, it all depends on your time frame. If you don't pre-treat, it will take days or even weeks for the ink to dry completely. With pre-treating, the waiting time is 24 hours to a few days. However, pre-treatment will usually make the dryer sheet stiffer and more opaque.

You can experiment with dyeing or painting the sheets first, mounting them on different fabrics or papers before stitching, or adhering them to a substrate in a different way. You might also want to try different brands of sheets to see how they look or feel after washing and see what happens when you wash them several times.

I love it when you can be frugal, recycle, and make beautiful artwork at the same time!

Hello! friends and visitors, I hope you all had an awesome weekend!.

I have been busy working on editing a video/slide show for my cousin's wedding for the end of March 2012 and I'm almost done...it's coming out beautiful. I do these types of videos on the side, for xtra $$$ and their so much fun to do!.

  On another note...
I have always love wearing scarves either around my neck, shoulders or waist. I guess it's the Bohemian/Gipsy spirit in me! Check out this awesome video, where Wendy show us how to use scarves in many ways.

Gifts Finishing Touches!

Do you have old Christmas Cards? Make Gifts Tags!!!

I finished putting some touches to my gifts and
here is how I did it;

 Select your favorite Christmas Cards.

 Tear off your card and keep the front cover only, making sure their is no writing on the back.

 Make a tag template out of card stock and trace on top of your card.

 Cut your Christmas Card Template.

 Make a hole with a punch hole.

 Here are some finished tags.

 Decorate your gift using ornament hooks, Tulle, Ribbons, Small Ornaments, etc... and make sure you write your dedications.

 Are they cute!

Now their ready to be given and the main idea is that the person receiving the gift, can keep the tag and the ornament so they can place it on their Christmas Tree next year.
