Postcards of Puerto Rico

It has been more than 7yrs. that I haven't visit the place where I was born and now that my mom and I have no major health issues, including 10 more members of our family. We will enjoy this long time yearning trip. Puerto Rico here I come!!!
La isla del encanto- San Juan, Puerto Rico

 Dorado, Puerto Rico
My Mother found this heaven that is located in Dorado, Puerto Rico. A front beach house, close to every place we visited, even my local family members were asking where she had found it and amazed by its beauty. It was HEAVEN in deed!...

El Capitolio- San Juan, Puerto Rico

 Castillo San Felipe del Morro
El Morro was built to protect San Juan Bay's deep harbor from attack by sea. I was the first good harbor for sailing ships en route to the New World after a one or two-month Atlantic voyage from Europe.

More walking!

Sentry box - Garita

 Loophole - Aspillera

 Parque de las Palomas

 "El Yunque" National Forest

Nowhere in the world will your eyes observe a greater wealth of beauty than what I saw here at the rain forest in the Luquillo Mountains. According to ancient indian legend, the good spirit "Yuquiyú" reigned on his mighty mountain-top throne, protecting Puerto Rico and its people. Here you will see 1.000-year-old trees, strange plants with exotic rainbow-colored flowers, and thick vines with great masses of lush red blossoms waving in the cool breeze, two-note chanting of the "Coquí", the chattering of unseen tropical birds and if you are lucky, the squawk of the endangered Puerto Rican Parrot.
In the Portal Rain Forest Center you will enjoy:
*Short movie
*Permanent Exhibits
*Gift Shops
*Restrooms
*Snack Bar

A 85 ft drop with variable water flow depending on recent rains

Walking on one of the trails to La Mina Falls: *Warning-You must be physically fit to endure this 3+miles of walking down thru pavement and stone trails and spectacular views of nature, small water falls and pounds. Not forgetting the friendly people constantly smiling at you and giving a hand if you are in need. And when you get to the bottom, you must enjoy the relaxing, refreshing cold water fall. After you do that, embrace yourself for a another physical walk going up, this was killing, my calves were burning but the views were unforgettable. There are three different trails, Easy, Medium and Challenge and of course without knowing we took the Challenge one. OMGodness this will be the last! ☺☺☺

El Yunque will be feature in the up-coming movie Pirates of the Carribean 2011

 On the road...
   Las Tetas de Cayey
Cerro Las Tetas, nicknamed Las Tetas de Cayey, but officially Cerro Las Tetas, and also Las Piedras del Collado are two mountain peaks located in the municipality of Salinas, Puerto Rico, north of the city of Salinas proper. Since September 1, 2000, the peaks have become part of a Puerto Rico Natural Reserve and are protected by law Their height is 2,759 feet (840.94 meters) above sea level.

Isla de Caja de Muerto Nature Reserve
This small island is practically barren but the beaches, scuba diving, and snorkeling opportunities re wonderful.

Goin up the mountain to visit my relatives in Villalba, get ready for narrows, curvy and beautiful scenic roads.

Welcome to "The Hacienda Marina"
One the the beautiful scenes from the house balcony

Leaving my uncles house we took a jump here "Chorro Doña Juana" by the side of the road, the water was freezing!, this was fun but started to rain and we have to go to "Plan B".

 "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"
Cockfight of Puerto Rico
I grow up around cock fighters, I remember going to his home and watch him prepare the roosters for a fight. My Great grandfather was one of them. I never got to see where they fight and I got to tell ya I was impressed by how legit and clean this place was, I don't see it as a type of animal cruelty it is a sport that has been in my culture for many years and now that I got to see it I'm ok with it.

Surfing is one of the water sports you can do in Puerto Rico

 La Concha Casino/Resort

 "El Coqui"
The Puerto Rican coquí is a very small - tiny - tree frog about one inch long. Some coquíes look green, some brown and some yellowish - actually they are translucent. Coquíes have a high pitched sound and can be heard from far away. The coquíes begin to sing when the sun goes down at dusk. Their melody serenades islanders to sleep. Coquíes sing all night long until dawn when they stop singing and head for the nest. Puerto Ricans love their coquíes and have written poems, stories, and Aguinaldos about them.

hear The Coquí sing!

Thank you for visiting and watching the video. Puerto Rico is the pearl of the Caribean and has a lot to offert, from the time you land on the island until you leave. It's friendly native people, sabroso cuisine, spectacular scenic views, endless must see and do adventures and of course its majestic and clear coastal beaches that has served of inspiration to so many artists.
Come and visit Puerto Rico!
